The Promised Life
The Promised Life follows a courageous mother's quest to make a better life for her family in the face of tragedy and hardship. In the early 1920s, Carmela Carrizzo and her husband farm lands in Sicily belonging to the unscrupulous Spanò. After a series of misfortunes, Carmela resolves to leave Italy for an uncertain but hopeful future in New York.
